I know this guy who has a very neat house. As you enter, you notice everything is neatly organized. Even the DVDs are alphabetized. You continue to the kitchen, and notice everything there is also neat, with pots hanging on the wall according to their size. The tables are empty. No clutter.
Just don't go to the bathroom on the second floor.
Dirty clothes all over the floor. A rusty sink. The second floor tells the true story.
But just because most visitors don't see the second floor, doesn't mean he should not care. Actually, the fact he lives upstairs is a reason to be more organized and clean there than he is downstairs.
Don't clean and organize your house and your life according to the way you feel others view you, but according to the way you want to see yourself. Just because people don't see the rusty sink, doesn't mean you should stand for a rusty sink. And just because people don't see something is wrong with your life, doesn't mean you should ignore it and try to improve your situation. It's up to you to take control of that second floor.
